Double
Standard in Cornwall High School Sports Program
To the Editor,
The Cornwall Central School District encourages extra-curricular
activities for students. We believe that athletics is an extension of the
classroom and that it contributes greatly to the overall education of the
student athlete. Athletics teaches self-discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship, and
competitiveness necessary to succeed in later life.
That being said, are our athletes
responsible for their actions? I maybe wrong but I believe they sign a contract
in order to participate in sports.
Well, the high school quarterback
maybe a different story. He arrived at the High School Valentine's Day dance so
drunk he proceeded to vomit at it. He is only suspended from playing in 4
basketball games instead of the required 6 month suspension from all sports.
Well, once again
it shows it makes a difference who you are. I am sure my kid would not have
gotten the hand slap this one did.
