You just can't make this sh&t up!
February 14 - If you like comedy, and don't care
much for television, we'd like to suggest that you start attending the meetings
of the Cornwall Town Board.
Monday evening's meeting
was one of the best shows yet.
Before we get into the
entertainment, we must acknowledge that we goofed. In an earlier article we
predicted that Todd Hazzard, currently a sergeant with the New Windsor Police
Department, would be named the new police chief.
This did not happen at
Monday's meeting. Cornwall Supervisor Dick Randazzo revealed that the search
was continuing.
We're not quite sure, but we'll get back to this later.
The opening act began when Nancy Lewitt, a critic of the town's
Planning Board, wanted to make a comment on the lack of "open Government."
Nancy was politely told to shut-up and sit down, and she did.
Don't feel badly for Nancy though, she will exact her revenge in
words and deeds and the offenders will suffer dearly with respect to their
future political aspirations.
The real show began when
Councilman Randy Clark, took offense at Margaret Menge's (the editor of the
town's other "write for food" publication) comments in which she suggested that
the Town Board was inept in how it was conducting the search for a new police
chief.
In his comments Randy made a less than subtle suggestion that the
town's other local publication be removed as the town's "official" publication,
and instead by replaced by The Sentinel.
Randy of course knows this
can't be done. Three years ago he tried to do the same thing, but was rebuked
due to an obscure municipal law that requires that "official" publications must
have a mailing address in the town that it serves.
It was at this point when
long-time Cornwall curmudgeon Al Secor squared-off with Dick Randazzo.
Al told Dick that Margaret was right and that the Town Board was
inept.
Dick told Al he didn't know what he was talking about. Telling Al
that he didn't know what he is talking about is not a politically wise thing to
do since Al will make it a point to make it known to whoever is listening, even
if they don't want to, that the offending politician is not far removed from
the lowest rungs of the food chain.
At one point Dick told Al
to essentially shut-up and sit down. This is like adding gasoline to a fire,
because Al won't take crap from anyone.
Interestingly, the five or
six police officers in the room made no move to help Al to his seat. They just
plain minded their own business, smiled, and enjoyed the show.
We're sure Dick
noted the lack of support. Al eventually did take his seat, but not until he
had his say.
So what happens now? We're not sure.
Todd could still get the
job. The same goes for Phil Sinagra, but he gave some lip to the Town Board
last week and we doubt if any of them are suffering short-term memory loss.
